The Trinity River Audubon Center resides within the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States within a few miles of the nearby urban downtown environment. The LEED Gold Certified facility is sculpted by elements of the natural world – earth, water, and air. The facility distills the energy of this restored place through exhibits, classrooms, and research laboratories that celebrate the land. Exterior spaces extend out from each of the wings; deep overhangs provide cooling shade for outdoor activities and connections to the trail heads. The facility was designed to provide the client with long term durability, flexibility, and minimal maintenance. This multiple award-winning project was designed by Antoine Predock Architects.

About The Lorenzo
The heart and soul of Lorenzo Hotel in Dallas is centered around the vibrant works of art immersed throughout the hotel. Every inch is covered with inspiration—from the art-filled rooms & corridors, to the timeless literature in the lobby, and South Beach resort-style pool overlooking the Dallas skyline. The Lorenzo seeks to create a similar effect, providing guests an escape from the ordinary—full of beauty and excitement.
History
The original 1971 hotel was a Ramada Inn built by Bobby Bridewell of Metro Hotels and designed by a California firm, Hendrick & Mock. Bridewell went on to develop many other hotels with his crowning achievement being the five star Mansion on Turtle Creek. The Ramada later became the Dallas Plaza Hotel—slowly declining over the years until acquired by Hamilton Properties in 2006. The building’s doors closed in 2009, when the Hamiltons found a caretaker for the building, Tom Coughlin, who resided for eight years as the sole occupant rent free on the 11th floor to repel metal thieves and homeless invaders. Today, you can see a mold of his hand holding the directional signage for the guestroom floors in his honor.
The hotel’s interior was completely gutted down to the concrete, and after years of designing and creating what it is today, Lorenzo Hotel in Dallas, TX opened in 2017. Since opening, the hotel has continued to evolve as a living art gallery, showcasing some of Dallas’ very own local artists. The inspiration around each and every corner of our boutique hotel is to immerse guests in a whimsical world that celebrates creativity and helps one escape the ordinary.
The Tina Turner Story
In July 1976, Ike and Tina Turner arrived in Dallas to begin a tour, Ike abused Tina so immensely that she finally decided enough was enough. As soon as Ike fell asleep in their room at the Statler Hilton, Tina put on sunglasses to mask her bruised face and made her escape. In an interview with Oprah, Tina reflects, “I just took a chance. The way out is through the door; and while he was on one of his sleeping times, I just left the hotel, went out the kitchen way and down to the freeway.”
Tina sprinted across the busy highway until she found her way to the Ramada Inn (what would become the Lorenzo Hotel), and asked for a room with just a Mobil credit card and 36 cents in her possession. The manager working that evening not only granted her request, but put Tina up in the Presidential Suite (now known as the Cake Suite). This monumental evening marked the beginning of Tina’s freedom and legendary career as a solo artist. As a tribute to Tina Turner, there are numerous pieces of art, and now an entire suite, at the hotel in her honor.
